December 31, 2004 – Core Story. What central story is at the core of you, and how do you share it with the world? (Bonus: Consider your reflections from this month. Look through them to discover a thread you may not have noticed until today.) (Author: Molly O’Neill)
What a great prompt to end the year and finish off Reverb10. I believe that my central story has to do with transcendence. From my earliest memories I have always been interested in the spiritual current that seems to run through all of life. I don’t have a name for this and it doesn’t fit into a neat definition offered by religion. But I’ve never doubted that something is there and I’m endlessly fascinated by what it is, how it works, how it affects my life and what I can do to translate this currency into concrete action.
I think this is why I’m so compelled to constantly be evolving as a person. I feel an urge to be more and do more- not to stagnate or close myself off to what is possible or to where life wants to take me. It is easy to be cynical, to suffer, to feel disappointed, to become bitter and to wallow in unhappiness. But it’s easier- and I think better- to allow the ebb and flow of life to move through me and to transform me into a wiser, more compassionate and more graceful version of what I was before.
